FARUQUE AHMAD ARIF was admitted to the Department of Journalism, Communication and Media Studies of the State Univer-sity of Bangladesh in 2014. The following year, in 2015, On June 4, the then Finance Minister of the Awami League government Abul Maal Abdul Muhith, imposed Value-added tax (VAT) initially at 10% and finally at 7.50% on private universities, private medical colleges and private engineering colleges in the national budget for the fiscal year 2015-16. On June 7, Arif could know from his classmate and friend Khairul Islam Bashar that the government had proposed a 10 percent VAT on students' tuition fees. That day he discussed with teachers and students of 12 universities and initially organized a movement to protest the imposition of VAT. Later on June 30, the 'No VAT on Education' platform was formed under the leadership of ULAB University student Farhan Habib, and on July 13 he joined it along with the leaders of these universities. When Farhan Habib left the movement and responsibility on the afternoon of August 16, the leaders of various universities elected him as the chief coordinator of No VAT on Education. At that time, the term chief coordinator was changed to spokesperson. As a result of his skillful and well-thought-out leadership and continuous successful programs and the spontaneous participation of students from all walks of life and the common people, the government was forced to withdraw VAT from the education sector on September 14, 2015, due to the student-public movement. The No VAT on Education movement and the Bangladesh General Student Rights Protection Council-led movement for job quota reform, the Safe Roads Movement 2018, and the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement 2024 have been featured in more than 150 media outlets around the world. Student Movement of Bangladesh in the World Media is a reflection of those. This is the author's second book. The first book on these movements was compiled and edited by Professor Robayet Ferdous of Dhaka University, titled "BANGLADESHER CHATRA BIPLOB: NO VAT ON EDUCATION THEKE BOISHOMMOBI-RODHY CHATRA ANDOLAN" (Bangladesh Student Revolution: From NO VAT ON EDUCATION to Anti-Inequality Student Movement). On October 15, 2017, he was elected as the convener of the Movement for World Education Rights, a global organization. The organization is working as a think tank based on the ministries of education, health and employment in 21 countries around the world. FARUQUE AHMAD ARIF as a journalist The Pratidin Bangladesh.
