২১টি উপন্যাস, ৭টি গল্পগ্রন্থ ও ৪টি প্রবন্ধগ্রন্থের রচয়িতা সেলিনা হোসেন বাংলাদেশের একজন জনপ্রিয় কথাসাহিত্যিক। সমকালীন রাজনৈতিক সংকট ও দ্বন্দ্বের উৎস ও প্রেক্ষাপট উঠে এসেছে সেলিনা হোসেন এর বই সমূহ-তে। সেলিনা হোসেন এর বই সমগ্র অনূদিত হয়েছে ইংরেজি, রুশসহ একাধিক ভাষায়। প্রবীণ এ লেখিকা ২০১৪ সাল থেকে বাংলাদেশ শিশু একাডেমির চেয়ারম্যান হিসেবে দায়িত্ব পালন করার পর কর্মজীবন থেকে অবসর নেন। সেলিনা হোসেন ১৯৪৭ সালের ১৪ই জুন রাজশাহীতে জন্মগ্রহণ করেন। আদি পৈতৃক নিবাস নোয়াখালীতে হলেও সেখানে বেশি দিন থাকা হয়নি তার। চাকরিসূত্রে তার বাবা রাজশাহী চলে এলে সেটিই হয়ে ওঠে সেলিনার শহর। স্থানীয় এক বালিকা বিদ্যালয়ে প্রাথমিক ও মাধ্যমিক শিক্ষা সমাপ্ত করে রাজশাহী মহিলা কলেজে ভর্তি হন। ছোটবেলা থেকেই সাহিত্য পড়তে ভালোবাসতেন তিনি। আর ভালোবাসার টানে উচ্চ মাধ্যমিক শেষে রাজশাহী বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের বাংলা বিভাগে ভর্তি হন। এখান থেকেই স্নাতক এবং স্নাতকোত্তর সম্পন্ন করেন। ১৯৭০ সালে বাংলা একাডেমির গবেষণা সহকারী হিসেবে কর্মজীবন শুরু করেন সেলিনা হোসেন। এরপর সরকারি কলেজে শিক্ষকতা এবং পাবলিক সার্ভিস কমিশনেও কাজ করেছেন তিনি। পাশাপাশি পত্রপত্রিকার জন্য চালিয়ে গেছেন তার কলম। টানা ২০ বছর তিনি ‘ধান শালিকের দেশ’ পত্রিকার সম্পাদনা করেন। ১৯৯৭ থেকে ২০০৪ সাল পর্যন্ত বাংলা একাডেমির প্রথম নারী পরিচালক হিসেবে দায়িত্ব পালন করেন তিনি। সেলিনা হোসেন মুক্তিযুদ্ধের উপন্যাস রচনা করে পাঠকমনে চিরস্থায়ী আসন করে নিয়েছেন। তার রচিত মুক্তযুদ্ধ বিষয়ক কালজয়ী উপন্যাস ‘হাঙর নদী গ্রেনেড’ নিয়ে তৈরি হয়েছে চলচ্চিত্রও। ‘যাপিত জীবন’, ‘ক্ষরণ’, ‘কাঁটাতারে প্রজাপতি’, ‘ভালোবাসা প্রীতিলতা’, ‘যুদ্ধ’, ‘গায়ত্রী সন্ধ্যা’ (তিন খণ্ড) ইত্যাদি তার জনপ্রিয় উপন্যাস। ‘স্বদেশে পরবাসী’, ‘একাত্তরের ঢাকা’, ‘ঊনসত্তরের গণ-আন্দোলন’ ইত্যাদি তার জনপ্রিয় প্রবন্ধ। কিশোরদের জন্য তিনি লিখেছেন ‘কাকতাড়ুয়া’, ‘চাঁদের বুড়ি পান্তা ইলিশ’, ‘আকাশ পরী’, ‘এক রূপোলি নদী’ সহ বেশ কিছু সুপাঠ্য গ্রন্থ। সাহিত্যাঙ্গনে এই অনবদ্য অবদানের জন্য রাজশাহী বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় তাকে ডি.লিট ডিগ্রি প্রদান করে। এছাড়াও তিনি ‘আলাওল সাহিত্য পুরস্কার’, ‘রবীন্দ্রস্মৃতি পুরস্কার’, ‘বাংলা একাডেমি সাহিত্য পুরস্কার’ সহ অসংখ্য পদক পুরস্কার পেয়েছেন।
