জনহীন এক দ্বিপে থাকা মানুষ ধরুন আপনি। যেই নৌকায় এসেছিলেন, তা তুমুল স্রোতে ভেংগে শত টুকরা -- ঢেউ আপনাকে আছড়ে ফেলেছে শুকনো জমিনে। বুনোফল আর নারিকেলের পানি খেয়েই দিন কাটে এখন আপনার। রুচি বদলাতে ডালের মাথায় ছুরি বেধে খপ করে একটা মাছের পেটে গেথে দিলেন! এবার সেটা পুড়ানোর পালা.. সেইযে নৌকার কাঠ, এতদিন সমুদ্রের নোনাজলে ভিজেছে। সেখান থেকে কয়েক টুকরাকে ডাংগায় এনে শুকিয়েছিলেন দরকারে কাজে লাগবে বলে। আজ সেই সময় এসেছে! সেখানে আরো কিছু বাকল জড়ো করে অনেক কষ্ট করে আগুন ধরাতেই সেখান থেকে সোদা কাঠপোড়া একটা ঘ্রাণ নাকে এসে ঠেকলো। ক্ষুধায় যদি অতটা কাবু না থাকতেন তখন, ঠিক বুঝতে পারতেন, ঘ্রাণটা "অউদ বাহরি"র মত !
