Indications of Ovocal-D
This is indicated for the treatment and prevention of osteoporosis, osteomalacia, tetany, hypoparathyroidism and osteogenesis. It can be used as supplement in case of inadequate intake of Calcium in childhood diet, pregnancy and lactation, rickets and poor absorption during old age. Other indications include pancreatitis and phosphate binder in chonic renal failure etc.

Pharmacology
Calcium is absorbed in the intestine which than passed through the intestine to blood and deposited into bone. Active transport through cell is dependent on Vitamin D3. Vitamin D3 keeps bone healthy by increasing the absorption of calcium in the intestines. Without Vitamin D3 body will be able to absorb only 10percent to 15percent of the Calcium from the diet.
Dosage and Administration of Ovocal-D
One tablet once or twice daily with plenty of water or food as directed by the physician.
Interaction of Ovocal-D
Major interaction: Administering intravenous Ceftriaxone and Calcium can result in life-threatening damage to the lung and kidneys. Calcium should not be administered intravenously within 48 hours of intravenous.Minor interaction: Calcium can reduce the absorption of tetracycline and fluoride preparations and minimum 3 hours time should be allowed between ingestion of these medications. Thiazide diuretics reduce the renal excretion of calcium. Phenytoin, barbiturates and glucocorticoids may induce metabolism of Vitamin D3. Intake of certain foods like spinach, cereals, milk and its derivatives may reduce the intestinal uptake of calcium.
Contraindications
Increased activity of parathyroid gland, hypercalcemia, constipation, kidney stone and extreme loss of body water are such condition in which calcium intake is contraindicated.
Side Effects of Ovocal-D
Flatulance, diarrhoea, constipation and allergic reactions etc are rare manifestation. Hypercalcemia due to prolong use has rarely been reported.
Pregnancy and Lactation
This should be given to pregnant and lactating mothers as per recommendation of physician. Toxicity was tested on pregnant and lactating females which results excellent.
Precautions and Warnings
In mild hypercalciuria reduction of dose is sufficient to return to normal serum calcium concentration. Patients with kidney stone or with such previous history should be recommended to increase their fluid intake.
Storage Conditions
Store in a cool and dry place, protected from light.
