R.N. Prasher is a retired IAS officer of the 1975 batch with extensive experience in the water and power sectors. He served as the principal secretary of Haryana’s irrigation and power departments and was a member of the Bhakra Beas Management Board. Prasher has been an outspoken advocate for the suspension of the 1960 Indus Water Treaty between India and Pakistan, arguing that water-scarce India could utilize the water currently flowing into the sea as permitted by the treaty. After his retirement, he served as the principal advisor to the chief minister of Haryana, overseeing inter-state water disputes across various forums, including the Supreme Court of India. He later became the chairman of the Haryana Electricity Regulatory Commission. Prasher is also a regular contributor to Chandigarh’s Daily World, where he writes a weekly editorial. He has published over 230 articles, primarily focused on geopolitics. A passionate traveller, he frequently drives solo in the high Himalayas, gaining valuable insights into the challenges and potential of the region’s rivers for India.
