Sannapureddy Venkatarami Reddy retired as a biology teacher at a government school in the village of Balaraju Palle, a few miles from the foothills of the Nallamala ranges. Kondapolam received both critical and popular acclaim as a modern classic in Telugu literature. It was adapted into a movie in 2021. The translator, Narasimha Kumar, is a technology entrepreneur with a humanities background. Tiger Lessons is his first work of translation from Telugu to English. Kumar had earlier adapted Albert Camus' play The Just Assassins for an award-winning Telugu movie.
